2008 Pinewood Open
When: March 8, 2008 Where: New Market Community Center Who: Open to all Costs: $5.00 entry fee For Questions call Bill 498-3460 Proceeds Benefit Cub Scout Pack 531 of Randleman Registration and inspection will begin at 12:00 noon and racing will start at 1:00. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
Official Rules: 1. Cars can be from any pinewood derby type kit (pinewood, pinecar, propine, etc.). 2. All cars must pass inspection prior to racing. 3. Once a car passes inspection it will go into a holding area, not to be touched until it has been eliminated from competition.
Car Specifications: 1. Total width of the car (including wheels) may not exceed 2 ¾ inches. (A) 2. Total length of the car may not exceed 7 inches. (B) 3. Bottom clearance of the car must be at least 3/8 inch. (C ) 4. Cars must be at least 1 ¾ inches wide at axel locations. (D) 5. Car must be less than 4 inches tall. (E) 6. Car must not exceed 5 ounces. Scales vary slightly- be prepared to make adjustments. 7. Details, such as driver, steering wheel, decals, and other decorative items are allowed as long as they are securely attached and do not exceed the maximum weight, length, and width. 8. No wheel bearings, washers, or bushings are allowed. 9. No springs allowed. 10. No automatic moving weight(s) allowed. 11. Car must be free wheeling (no starting devices or motion devices).
Wheels: 1. Wheels must be the ones that come in the kit (approximately 1 3/16inch diameter). 2. Wheels may be worked by sanding or turning. 3. Axels may be polished or honed if desired.
Lubrication: 1. Only dry lubricants are allowed- no oils or sprays allowed.
Car Numbers: 1. Car numbers (for racing purposes) will be issued at registration.
Racing: 1. Each car will race 6 times. 2. Each car will race in each lane twice. 3. A cumulative time of all 6 races will determine the winner. 4. In the event of a tie, those cars will run one head to head competition. Lane position will be drawn. 5. If any car interferes with another car during a race the race will be rerun. 6. Any car critically damaged during a race will be given 2 minutes to repair the critical damage only, no other adjustments will be allowed. Critical damage is defined as damage not allowing the car to run down the track.
General Rules: 1. Because of possible damage to the cars and track, there will be no running, pushing, horseplay, etc. in the building. 2. Spectators must remain behind the roped area. Only race officials will be allowed in the racing area. 3. Decisions of the race officials are final.
Awards: Trophies for top five places in speed, design, and beauty. Also for Best of Show and Fans Favorite.
